The Steve Fund will give a presentation at an event sponsored by Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) at NY School of Law on July 28.

Steve Fund Senior Scientific Advisor Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble will give a presentation about student-of-color mental health and emotional well-being at an event sponsored by Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) at NY School of Law on July 28. Dr. Breland Noble will address 100 incoming freshmen and sophomores, and students who leave home to go to college. Her remarks will touch on the following topics:

  • Cross cultural awareness of how mental health is viewed and perceived by students and families from different backgrounds
  • Helping students connect their inner feelings to the behaviors that they describe
  • Identifying presenting symptoms of anxiety, loneliness, and sadness
  • Helping students identify their own coping skills and mechanisms (strengths based perspective)
  • Destigmatizing and breaking down the obstacles of having students access resources on campus/in their communities
  • Engagement to include a self-assessment around how students view their own state of mental health, what are positive/negative factors affecting it, action steps or key take aways at the end of the session

About The Steve Fund

The Steve Fund is dedicated to the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color. Right at this moment, there are students of color who are failing academically, suffering emotionally and/OR in some cases are facing serious risk, because population-specific factors influencing mental health are too poorly understood and not acted upon.
