The goal of The Stephen C. Rose Legacy Scholarships is to promote the emotional well-being and mental health of youth in ethnically diverse communities. By supporting competitive scholarships for research on the mental health challenges facing college students of color, the Fund is supporting the growth of a generation of scholars with knowledge and capacity to address the mental health needs of our target population.
Associations that support the study and advancement of psychology research and practice among minority populations are eligible to receive scholarships to offer their student members for competitive award. In 2016, three notable associations will administer Steve Fund scholarships to young scholars to research psychological challenges confronting their respective populations: the Asian American Psychological Association, the Association of Black Psychologists, and the National Latina/o Psychological Association. Both undergraduate and graduate students may apply for the annual Stephen C. Rose Legacy Scholarship. Awards will be based on the relevance of the topics and quality of proposals.
Two researchers of the 2016 Emerging Scholars Fellowship, an Active Minds program dedicated to supporting undergraduate and graduate student research on mental health, will study mental health among students of color specifically. The Steve Fund is supporting these two Stephen C. Rose Legacy / Active Minds Scholars.
Dissemination is critical to The Steve Fund’s goal of furthering knowledge and practice among a future generation of scholars of color. Awardees will present their research at the associations’ national conferences and at other professional venues as appropriate.
